The shortest DAY in the uk in the London area which is the 21st December the sun rises about 8.05 in the morning and sets about 3.54 in the evening which means that we have about 7hours and 49 minutes of LIGHT for the Shortest day. DAY has nothing to do with the darkness of night. So that when the sun sets a new NIGHT begins. Evening is part of the LIGHT or afternoon period.
Introduction. For people who keep a Friday sunset to Saturday sunset Sabbath, this article will be no problem. It should be remembered that at the 21st June we have the longest DAY; and at the 21st December we have the shortest day. This is referring to the amount of light from the sun.
To reproduce themselves they also knew that the humans were going to have to have, free will. It was this "free will" experiment that was, they knew, going to cause problems. One of these was the topic of DAY.
Many people have been mystified by the idea that because God did NOT create the sun until the fourth day, where did the light of the first, second and third day come from?
1 John 1:5 shows that God is light, but both God beings have the power to switch their light power on and off. This is what being a GOD being is. One has power over power. This is shown when Christ was transfigured in front of the desciples in Mark 9:3 and became shining white as the sun. This was as a human being, i.e. in the flesh and blood before he was resurrected from the dead.
So; both the Father and the Son have the power to SWITCH THEIR LIGHT POWER BOTH ON AND OFF. This is what Christ as the Logos did because he KNEW that there was darkness upon the face of the deep in Gen. 1:2. He created the darkness, Is. 45:7 "I create darkness". He switched his light power OFF to start the regeneration process. He became an invisible spirit being. Then when he said "let there be light" He switched himself back on again in all his blazing glory.
When he had created the sun on the fourth day he could switch his light power OFF and become as a human being in form to create Adam and Eve.
Now on to DAY; I am once again going to use the scientific approach in that any experiment has "fixed" starting materials. I am using the Authorised King James Version of the Bible ISBN 0-529-10225-0
This earths system of ours was started off with DARKNESS Gen. 1:2 "And darkness was upon the face of the deep".
In Gen. 1:3 God then goes on to say "Let there be light, and there was light".
Sun rise is that which starts the day in the morning. Mark 16:2.
Sun set is that which closes the day in the evening. Mark 1:32.
Now when we come to Gen. 1:4 where God quite clearly says that "and God divided the LIGHT from the darkness". They are clearly opposite to each other. So DAY LIGHT, is the opposite of the darkness of NIGHT.
So in Gen. 1:5 where it says "And the evening and the morning were the first day". He means exactly as he say. The evening and the morning were the first DAY LIGHT period of 12 hours.
He did not say "And the evening and the morning were the first NIGHT followed by Day light" i.e 24 hours.
Nor did he say "And the evening and darkness and morning were the first day".
As our earth turns upon it's axis we go through a continuous cycle of NIGHT or darkness followed by the light of DAY. This cycle of NIGHT followed by DAY takes 24 hours, but it is NOT a day as GOD defines a day.
There is no such thing in this world or in the bible, as a 24 hour day of daylight or we would be in perpetual light. There is no scripture in the bible that refers to a "24 hour day". There is one that refers to "A 12 hour day". Christ said "Are there not TWELVE HOURS in the day?" John 11:9.
As said at the beginning. For people who keep a Friday sunset to Saturday sunset Sabbath, this article will be no problem. This is because when the sun sets Friday evening we go into the Sabbath NIGHT for a rest of sleep and this is followed by the Sabbath DAY where we REST from "work" and concentrate on GOD.
There is no command by God to keep the Sabbath night as a night of rest, this is because most human beings want to rest any way or sleep during the dark hours of night. It is the 7th DAY or daylight period that God Commands the rest. Gen. 2:2-3. This is from sun rise in the morning to sun set in the evening.
There is NO scripture in the bible that shows evening as being of the "darkness of night"
Here are 4 scriptures showing evening at the close of day.
There are 40 scriptures that show that evening is the close of DAY
Remember once the sun has set in the evening of the DAY, a NEW NIGHT begins.
This is shown in the following:
When the sun has set at the close of the evening of the 6th day Friday, we go into a NEW 7th Sabbath NIGHT.
When Paul was on his journey and the 13th day ended at sunset in the evening, he went into the fourteenth NIGHT Acts 27:27. This was followed by the fourteenth DAY Acts 27:33.
When the sun has set in the evening of the 9th day, we go into the 10th sabbath NIGHT of Atonement for 12 hours. This is followed by the 12 hours of the sabbath DAY of atonement on the 10th day. Lev.23:27-32.
So the Atonement sabbath is 24 hours long but consists of 12 hours of night followed by 12 hours of daylight.
When the sun has set at the close of the evening of the 14th DAY Ex. 12:6, the preparation day; we then go into the 15th NIGHT. The Passover NIGHT Ex.12:8.
The commanded Sabbath day can be as little as 8 hours in the winter. Sun rise to sunset. 12 hours at the spring equinox. 24 hours at Atonement, even to even; Lev. 23:27-32. And a Sabbath YEAR (365 days) when the land needs a rest; Lev. 25:1-4.
By defining day as LIGHT as God does in Gen.1:5 solves the problem of 2 Peter 3:8. God here is not trying to stretch 12 hours into a thousand years, or the reverse, but simply trying to say that as day equals LIGHT, then with Christ in charge of the earth for 1000 years it will be a period of 1000 years of LIGHT. This is because in this period there will be NO NIGHT there. Rev. 21:25; 22:5. We will be living in perpetual LIGHT.
Unfortunately there are some people who do not understand when DAY starts. To give an example of this, in the book "Judaism as Creed and Life" by Morris Joseph Published by Routledge 1920; page 213, as a foot note:
"All the Jewish Holy Days, as well as the Sabbath, begin on the evening of the previous day, a usage based on Gen. 1:5."
Now on the surface of it and when I first read this I thought "Yes, that is correct the Jews know what they are talking about" It was only when I started to go into this NIGHT and DAY topic that I realised "oh they are a bit confusing".
Let us start with the Torah; I have been informed that:
Alex, in the Hebrew Tanach, "according to the Hebrew Text," Gen. 1:5 says: "God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, a first day." There is a footnote that says, "others 'one day'." Hope this helps Frank
So the Jews know that God called the LIGHT, DAY and the DARKNESS, NIGHT in Gen. 1:5.
Next let us go on to "the PREVIOUS DAY"
Here the Jewish scholars recognise that the Sabbath NIGHT begins from the "evening of the PREVIOUS DAY"
The PREVIOUS day happens to be Friday which is NOT the Sabbath.
The EVENING of the previous DAY is the LIGHT period at the close of Friday. This is BEFORE the Sabbath NIGHT starts.
Now once the sun has set Friday EVENING, we go into the Darkness of the Sabbath NIGHT. As explained above, Gen. 2:2-3 It is the 7th DayLIGHT period that God blessed, NOT the night followed by DAY
So the commanded Sabbath DAY is Saturday from sunrise to sunset.
So the "Jewish Holy Days" might start from the evening of the previous day but God's Holy DAYS start at sunrise. It is the Jews and their tradition which is causing the confusion not God. They are the children of darkness.
, for you are all children of light and children of the day; we are not of the night or of darkness. This confirms God's original definition in Gen. 1:5 Light = DAY.
This term is found in 1 Thes. 5:2-5; Zeph.1:14-15 and Joel 2:1-2. It is a WARNING to all on earth that God is about to take over the control of the earth. In other words change or repent. Normally a day with God is LIGHT. But because it is a warning statement then it is going to be "A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness. Joel 2:1-2.
Elesha YisraEl has formulated these 21 questions to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt when the day begins, ends and that evening is PART of the day. He believes that if any serious student of the Scriptures attempts to honestly answer these questions that he will come to the same undeniable conclusion that day and night are totally the opposite of one another, and that they are two distinctly different times altogether. Any questions that you might have regarding these questions, you may call Elesha YisraEl directly at (513) 226-7110.
1. According to Genesis 1:14, what did YHWH, Our Creator, give us to determine our days and our years. Lights or darkness (nights)?
(A) - Lights. Genesis 1:14, notice not darkness (nights), but "lights".
2. If a day starts in the evening when it becomes dark, then when does a night begin?
(A) - They do not both start simultaneously, if so, they would be the same. A day starts when it becomes light (Judges 16:2), and a night starts when it becomes dark (Psalm 104:20). They are totally the opposite of one another. Genesis 8:22.
3. Is 12:00 midnight the middle of the night or the middle of the day?
(A) - It is the middle of the night, because the middle of the day comes after the morning and before the evening. I Kings 18:26-29.
4. When the Holy Scriptures speak about the break of day, or the dawning of the day, in II Samuel 2:32, Judges 19:25 and Job 7:4; is this speaking about the beginning of a day, or the end of a day?
(A) - It is speaking about the beginning of a day.
5. Was the sun made to rule over the day or was it made to rule over the night?
(A) - Genesis 1:14-18. The day, the sun is not up at night.
If the sun was made to rule over the day, then how can a day begin at night when the sun is not ruling?
(A) – It is not possible. Psalm 136:7-9.
6. In Exodus 18:13 it states, “And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.” When does morrow begin; in the evening, night or in the morning?
(A) - Morning, as all of Scripture clearly indicates. I have never found a Scripture where the morrow starts in the evening or the night.
7. The Creator said many times throughout the Scriptures, that He divided the day from the night or the light from darkness (Genesis 1:3-4 and Genesis 1:14-18). When did He put them back together?
(A) - He has not and will not! Ecclesiastes 3:14 and Isaiah 40:8.
8. If the celebration of our Sabbath days and our new moons (Isaiah 66:23) begins in the evening when the sun is going down, why would Our Creator state that all nations shall praise His Name and worship Him from the “rising of the sun until the going down of the same (sun)”? From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same YHWH’s name is to be praised. Psalm 113:3.
(A) - If the Sabbath started in the evening, as many of our people believe, then this verse would make no sense whatsoever.
9. In Numbers 11:32, it says that the Children of Israel gathered quail all that day, and all that night, and all the next day. How many days and how many nights did they gather quails?
(A) - Two days and one night, (but if a day begins at night then they would have gathered quails three days and three nights).
10. In Leviticus 7:15, it says, “the flesh of the sacrifice of His peace offerings for thanksgiving shall be eaten the same day that it is offered; he shall not leave any of it until the morning.” Does the word “morning”, in this verse indicate the morning that is connected to the previous evening, or the morning that is connected to a new day?
(A) - New day. Numbers 28:3-4, this verse also proves the evening is part of the previous day, not the beginning of a new day.
12. According to Exodus 16:22-25, when does the Rest of the Holy Sabbath unto YHWH begin, in the night, evening or in the morning?
(A) - Morning or morrow, as all new days begin.
13. If a night is considered a day, then what did YAH mean when He said that He caused it to rain forty days and forty nights?
(A) - A night is not considered a day. Psalm 104:20.
14. If a day starts when it becomes dark, then why is darkness always pertained to as night, and never pertained to as day? (Psalm 104:20); the only notable except is when it is speaking about the “Day of YAH’s Wrath” being a dark day?
(A) - A day does not start when it becomes dark, because YAH totally separated the light from the darkness. Genesis 1:18.
15. In Genesis 1:5, does the word day mean light or does it mean light and darkness?
(A) - The word day means light only. Genesis 1:3-4.
16. In Jeremiah 33:19-21, YHWH speaks about the evil that He would bring upon the house of David and kingdom of Israel, if they broke His covenants that there should not be day or night in their season (Psalm 22:2). What is the season of the day, and what is the season of the night?
(A) The season of the day is when the sun is reigns, and the season of the night is when the moon reigns. Jeremiah 31:35.
17. In Job 17:8-12, the upright men, the innocent men, and the righteous men and everyone who has clean hands has stirred up themselves against the hypocrites. Why is it that the people who changed night into day are referred to as hypocrites?
(A) - Because the hypocrites are saying that YHWH, Our Creator told a lie, when He said He separated the day from the night. Genesis 1:14-18.
If a day always started at night, then how could anyone change the night into day?
(A) - It is not possible, but by trying to do so, the wicked could possibly bring about the total destruction of the House of Israel. Jeremiah 33:19-21.
18. According to the Words of The Most High, what is the difference between a day and a night? (Give Scriptures please).
(A) Here is what we find… Day equals light, and darkness equals night. Jeremiah 31:35 and Psalm 136:7-9.
19. Genesis 8:22 reads, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” The Most High gives us four different times and conditions. Are these times and conditions the same, or are they totally the opposite of one another?
(A) - Totally the opposite of one another.
20. According to Leviticus 8:35, Aaron and his sons were to remain at the door of the Tabernacle, day and night, seven days. How many nights did they remain?
(A) - Six nights.
21. Outside of the way that many of you might interpret Genesis 1st Chapter, is there anywhere else in the Holy Scriptures that says that evening and morning are a day?
(A) - No! Because, it is not, neither is Genesis the 1st Chapter saying that.
How did you do? You knew every one of the answers didn’t you? So, when does a day begin?

Hi Alex,
I read some of your information. I am not clear if
you
simply observe a dawn to dark Sabbath or something
longer than that period of time.
Thanks,
Neil
Answer
Many people have been puzzled by this worldwide. While
God only commands a Sabbath DAY i.e. from dawn to
Dark; in reality one would normally rest on the
Sabbath NIGHT although it is NOT commanded. So once
the sun goes down on Friday we rest.
Logically if one worked hard all Friday night in the
dark one would be shattered on Saturday.
So once one has worked till sunset on Friday. We rest.
Hope this helps. Alex
